A construction worker was hit by a 1986 Chevrolet van on Interstate 85 in Archdale, North Carolina.
According to an article from The News & Record, the 23-year-old North Carolina construction worker was listed in serious condition at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
The article says the van ran off the road to the left and went into the median, then came back on the road, crossed by lanes of traffic and hit a tractor-trailer.
The driver of the van was charged with driving while impaired, failure to maintain a lane and careless and reckless driving, the article says.
Do those who drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol face penalties serious enough to think twice before getting behind the wheel? Why or why not?
